Joanne Harmon Curry Joanne Harmon Curry, a partner with the firm, received her J.D. cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where she was Associate Editor of the Wisconsin Law Review. A former teacher, Joanne received her B.S., magna cum laude, from South Dakota State University, and her M.Ed. and Ph.D. (with distinction) in special education from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Joanne’s practice includes general school law, public sector labor and employment, special education, Section 504 rehabilitation and other discrimination law, charter schools, HIPAA, and litigation. She also practices federal Indian and tribal law, providing legal counsel to the Oneida Nation School Board. Joanne has authored over 45 articles in the field of special education. She is a frequent contributor to the “Legal Comments” section of the monthly Wisconsin School News and the quarterly “Legal Notes,” which are distributed by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB). She also is co-author of the school law chapter published in the Annual Survey of Wisconsin Law by the State Bar of Wisconsin. Joanne has presented at seminars and conferences sponsored by the Wisconsin School Attorneys Association (WSAA) and the WASB, the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA), the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), Lorman Business Services, the Wisconsin Council of Administrators of Special Services (WCASS), the Wisconsin Charter School Association (WCSA), and the Wisconsin Indian Education Association (WIEA). She is admitted to practice in the Wisconsin Supreme Court, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, the Ho-Chunk Nation Courts, and the Oneida Nation Appeals Commission. Joanne is a member of the Federal, National Native American, American , Wisconsin and Dane County Bar Associations, the Education Law Association, the WCASS, the WSAA, and the Wisconsin Indian Education Association. Joanne is an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation. Finally, Joanne was recently named to the 2007 edition of Wisconsin Super Lawyers (Rising Stars).
