Lathrop & Clark offers competitive compensation and benefits for its attorneys. Associate and partner compensation and benefits are reviewed and adjusted annually as necessary to remain competitive. Life Outside of Work Each year Lathrop & Clark hosts a summer outing and holiday party. These two events are designed to encourage spouse and family participation among the entire firm. The firm also holds a variety of formal and informal activities throughout the year.
Lathrop & Clark seeks new associates who:
Consistent with our philosophy that new attorneys should be exposed to a variety of work in order to become well rounded, the firm generally does not assign new associates to a practice group for a period of time. However, Lathrop & Clark recognizes associate interest in certain practice areas and takes this into consideration in assigning projects. Associate Meetings In addition to attendance at regular practice group meetings, associates hold monthly meetings under the guidance of the partner who serves as Chair of the Associate Committee. Associates are also involved in a number of the firm's standing committees, such as the Marketing Committee, the Technology Committee and the Ethics Committee. Partnership Typically, associates are first considered for partnership in their seventh year of practice. Law Clerks The primary object of the firm’s law clerk program is to facilitate the hiring of talented full-time associates as needed. Many Lathrop & Clark attorneys began as law clerks with the firm. The continued successful recruitment of entry-level associates will remain an important component of Lathrop & Clark's professional growth. Work Assignments Lathrop & Clark understands that the quality and variety of assignments are critical factors to a law clerk in deciding whether to return to the firm after completing law school. Every effort is made to provide projects that are both interesting and worthwhile. Moreover, law clerks are given client projects, not canned assignments. A prime goal of Lathrop & Clark's law clerk program is to have law clerks work with a cross section of attorneys on a variety of projects. The firm's philosophy is to expose law clerks to as many substantive practice areas as possible, and to provide opportunities to get to know our attorneys on a personal and professional level. Typically, law clerks are not assigned to a single attorney or practice group during the summer. Projects are assigned directly to the law clerk by the attorney initiating the work and feedback is viewed as a key part of the law clerk’s development. Paralegals, Legal Assistants
